Chapter Nine
Istanbul, May 8, 1994
Following the Detonation
Popping noises rose above the cacophony. Fireworks? No, too loud. The crashing of dishes, copper, and ceramics resounded like a giant cymbal announcing the King of Siam. The covered market jumbled into a madhouse of screams and thuds. Flashes of light ricocheted off glass windows. Nostrils flared as smoke filled the air. Coughing ensued. Shopkeepers scrambled. Masses of people looked to flee and exit in any direction available. A kaleidoscope of virtual insanity, Krista saw it all in slow motion, her first view almost distant and dispassionate. Her intellect retreated to a corner of her mind to allow itself the process of comprehension.
