On September 23, 2005, a Welsh tourist was killed in Akrotiri on the Island of Santorini. Six others were injured. The roof of the newly-remodeled structure protecting the archeological site collapsed. The level of volcanic soil on the roof was thicker by 11.5 centimeters than per construction plans. With the added weight of water for vegetation, a portion of the roof collapsed resulting in this fatal calamity. Pending a new roof design, Akrotiri is closed indefinitely.
My book, Cataclysm in Blue Water, was staged in 1974. The reader is transported back in time to the original tin-canopy shelter of the archeological site (above.)
